SALT LAKE CITY — Vice President Mike Pence arrived in Salt Lake City Wednesday evening via Air Force Two.

He landed a little after 6 p.m. and was met by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and Jennie Taylor, wife of the late North Ogden Mayor Brent Taylor who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2018.

He was also greeted by a crowd of supporters.

“Utah is a dynamic state with a growing economy,” Pence told reporters Wednesday. “The American economy is booming after President (Donald) Trump’s leadership … and 6.2 million jobs later this economy is roaring.”

Pence complimented the state’s ability to create jobs.

“I’m here in Utah because this is a state that knows how to create jobs, knows how to create opportunities,” he said. “I wanted to be here to make sure the people of Utah and their elected representatives know just how important the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement is for Utah and is for America.”

Pence said he treasured his friendship with Herbert and admired his leadership.

“I’m just so grateful to Governor Herbert, for his friendship, for his leadership and I’m really grateful for this wonderful warm welcome back to Utah,” he said.

Pence will speak Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Merit Medical in South Jordan.
