THE SUBWAY CART — Don’t you get annoyed when someone sings a song out loud? Or doesn’t it tick you off when someone doesn’t have headphones and they’re blasting music? Ugh! It can be so annoying.

But sometimes, someone is playing a song out loud that everyone loves and something special happens, and in this video we see just that.

For those of a certain age (OK, maybe not that old), the song “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys brings back memories of late 90s/early 2000s fun (or annoyance). Still, that song is catchy, and it’s a fun song that most people know the lyrics to.

A New York City subway is the scene of this tremendous sing-a-long. In the video, we hear the BSB classic playing loudly in the car. While some riders are minding their own business and not singing (which is how you should act in a NYC subway), most riders are all in and singing the famous lyrics loud and proud.

“I want it that way!”

Somewhere in Brooklyn, detective Jake Peralta is proud and singing along.

The magic can happen when we can come together, take a few minutes to stop worrying about the world’s problems, and enjoy a song — even if it’s from an artist that you don’t necessarily like.

I don’t know about you, but I’m now patiently waiting for more early 2000s karaoke in subway cars. A little Ja Rule and Ashanti, perhaps?
