SALT LAKE CITY — The Canyons School District announced the make-up day for classes canceled due to Monday’s snowstorm.
Classes will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, Presidents Day, the school district announced Thursday.
“All Canyons District schools will now hold school … on their usual Monday schedules,” the school district said. School buses will also be running on Feb. 17 on their regular Monday schedules.
Presidents Day was chosen by Canyons School District’s calendar committee as a designated make-up day for emergency school closures, the school district said.
“Decisions to cancel school are never made lightly,” the school district said. “The early morning call for a ‘Snow Day’ was made by administrators after consultation with transportation department personnel surveyed roads and reported conditions were too slippery and hazardous for safe travel.”
Monday’s snowmageddon storm dumped large amounts of snow across most of northern Utah, causing many school cancellations throughout the state.
Monday’s school cancelation was only the second weather-related cancellation in Canyons School District history.
If there are any more snow days this winter and designated make-up days are used, Canyons School District said it can petition the state board of education for a waiver of any additional days missed.
