LEHI — In the middle of a massive reconstruction project that involves rebuilding the old gym and school, Lehi High School also has a new basketball coach.
And it’s something of a homecoming.
The Pioneers have hired former Lone Peak head coach and BYU assistant Quincy Lewis to oversee the boys basketball program, the school announced by early Tuesday morning.
“I’m excited to be here, to be the new basketball coach,” Lewis said. “I’m excited to be part of the community and the school. There’s a lot of great tradition here; 11 state championships, and a lot of great players who have come here.
“I’m excited to get to know the players, parents and the community.”
No stranger to Utah high school basketball, Lewis spent one season at his alma mater Timpview High as athletic director. The Thunderbirds’ boys basketball team finished second to Springville in the UHSAA Class 5A state tournament with a 21-7 record under head coach Kevin Santiago, and will likely return every player from the varsity roster next year.

“Lehi has a proud and rich basketball history, and Coach Lewis is a great addition to that,” Lehi principal Doug Webb said. “We are really excited to have him join our faculty.”
Lehi finished 13-10 in 2019-20, including a 9-3 record in Region 7 and a league title by two games over second-place Timpview, Orem and Timpanogos. The Pioneers return leading scorers Noa Gonsalves (19.5 points, 5.13 rebounds, 2.04 assists per game) and Tyson Hawkins (12.13 points, 2.91 assists), who were both juniors a year ago.
Lewis was an assistant coach on Dave Rose’s former staff at BYU, helping the Cougars to three-straight 22-plus win seasons and a trip to the NIT semifinals in 2015-16.
That followed a 12-year career at Lone Peak, where Lewis led the Knights to a 250-45 overall record, seven state titles, 10 region titles and the 2013 mythical national championship by MaxPreps. A graduate of Dixie College and Wagner College, Lewis also spent time as an assistant coach at BYU-Hawaii, Utah Valley State College and Southern Utah prior to getting the job at Lone Peak.
A graduate of Timpview in 1989, Lewis was the starting point guard on a pair of Thunderbird teams that finished 47-3 with a pair of state titles in 1988 and 1989. A two-time all-state selection, Lewis was named 3A MVP as a senior prior to going on to a career at Dixie where he finished as one of the top-25 scorers in the then-two-year college program’s history.
Lewis and his wife Debbie are the parents of four children.
