SALT LAKE CITY — Things have been a little strange of late.

No school, no sports, no work (or at least a very different workspace) — seems like the perfect time to read, right?

At least that’s what the Utah Jazz think.

On Wednesday, the Jazz launched "Bear’s Reading Challenge" to help engage students who have been forced to learn remotely due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The challenge is open to grades K-12 (though we’re sure they wouldn’t mind if adults played along, too) and encourages students to read for at least 600 total minutes starting Wednesday through April 27. On Monday, Gov. Gary Herbert announced schools would be dismissed and in-home learning would continue until at least May 1.

Those who complete the challenge and submit their information online by April 27 will be entered into a drawing to win Jazz prizes, including a 2019-20 autographed team basketball, autographed jersey, and prize packs.

Unfortunately, prizes won’t include tickets to games — for one obvious reason.

This is just the latest thing the Jazz have done to reach out to the community during the pandemic.

Jazz center Rudy Gobert donated $200,000 to part-time arena workers — a donation that Gail Miller and the Miller family matched. Donovan Mitchell donated money for students in the Granite School District to receive meals during the school shutdown. And the Jazz and Vivint Arena donated more than 3,000 pounds of food to Catholic Community Services for meal preparation at four homeless shelters in Salt Lake City.
