SANDY — Major League Soccer’s season is still suspended, and Real Salt Lake’s players are still in limbo during a league-wide training moratorium.
But the club’s representatives? Well, they aren’t sitting around.
Through a generous donation from the RSL Foundation, the organization donated 1,500 pounds of food to the Utah Food Bank over the past three days that would’ve been sold at Rio Tinto Stadium last Saturday during the club’s home match against the New England Revolution.
The donation, which was paired with a $5,000 check from the RSL Foundation, will help provide 1,250 meals at an average of 1.2 pounds per meal. When coupled with the cash donation, it amounts to approximately 21,000 meals for Salt Lake residents in need of a meal and battling the coronavirus pandemic.

"This is bigger than soccer," RSL Foundation executive director Mary Van Minde said in a statement from the club. "In this difficult time that everyone is facing, we wanted to take the opportunity to help those in need.
"In delivering food that may have gone to waste to the Utah Food Bank, the RSL Foundation aims not only to help people affected by the pandemic, but also create awareness for a giving opportunity right here in our community."
