SALT LAKE CITY — Athletic director Mark Harlan teased recently that Utah would add a premier opponent to its future football schedule.

On Monday, Harlan delivered.

Utah scheduled a home-and-home series with the recent college football champions, the LSU Tigers, for the 2031 and 2032 seasons.

The two-game series is set to begin on Sept. 6, 2031, at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City and a follow-up game is scheduled in Baton Rouge on Sept. 11, 2032.

"Our aspirations to continue to grow and elevate our football program make opportunities like this especially important," Harlan said in a statement. "For our student-athletes it is an incredible opportunity to play a high-profile opponent in two fantastic environments.

“It also is incredibly attractive to our fans to host a team like LSU at Rice-Eccles Stadium and to go on the road to Baton Rouge and cheer on their Utes."

The Tigers are the third SEC opponent to recently schedule a series with the Utes. Harlan scheduled matchups against Florida (2022 and 2023) and Arkansas (2026 and 2028) last fall. Florida becomes the first SEC opponent to ever play at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Utah has played LSU twice in program history, with LSU winning both games. The Tigers last beat the Utes on Nov. 27, 1976. The new series is the latest scheduled matchup on either program’s slate.

Utah has also scheduled matchups with the Big 12’s Baylor for the 2023-24 seasons.
