LOGAN ā For a consecutive season, Utah State football will lose a key piece of its offense.
A year after head coach Matt Wells took the same job at Texas Tech, Aggie quarterback Jordan Love has announced his time in Logan is done.
The redshirt junior signal-caller announced Tuesday via Twitter that he was declaring for the NFL Draft, ready to chase his next dream.
āI knew from the first time I put on a helmet and shoulder pads that I wanted to play in the NFL and am excited to begin that journey now,ā Love said. āI havenāt quite closed this chapter of my life, though, as I look forward to putting on my Aggie uniform one final time for our bowl game.ā
Love is on track to graduate in December with a bachelorās degree in exercise science.
āJordan and his family have been tremendous throughout this process, and he is making this announcement now so itās not a distraction to the team and his teammates leading up to the bowl game,ā Utah State coach Gary Andersen said in a statement. āJordan has been a great student-athlete and is a tremendous teammate, and we are excited for his future in the NFL.ā
Love threw for 3,085 yards with 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions as a junior in 2019, his second consecutive year of at least 3,000 passing yards. He added 3,567 yards with 32 touchdowns and six interceptions as a junior a year ago to lead the Aggies to an 11-2 record that helped set up his former coach, offensive coordinator, and most of the rest of the coaching staff for a move to Lubbock, Texas.

Earlier in the week, several reports began to emerge that Loveās time with the Aggies was done. Yahoo Sports columnist Dan Wetzel tweeted that the junior was considering a jump to the NFL, and if his draft stock wasnāt right for 2020, he would enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal ā with Texas Tech being among his potential suitors, along with Oklahoma and Houston.
If he joins the Red Raiders, heāll be reunited with Wells and Yost. If he goes to the Sooners, heāll join a program that has built the past two Heisman Trophy winners ā and a finalist this year in quarterback Jalen Hurts, an Alabama transfer.
If Love goes to Houston, heāll likely battle for the starting job with DāEriq King.
For now, though, Aggie fans will still have one thing ā Utah Stateās season finale, and Loveās final game, against Kent State in the Tropical Smoothies Cafe Frisco Bowl in Frisco, Texas.
The fourth-year junior, who arrived at Utah State prior to the fall of 2016, enters the final game of his career with 8,283 yards, 57 touchdowns and 28 interceptions, ranking second in school history in passing yards and attempts and third in touchdown passes, completions and total offense. His 11 career 300-yard passing games is the most in Aggie history.
After the Frisco Bowl, Love will begin preparing for the NFL Draft in January and will be active for the NFL Combine, which runs Feb. 23-March 2 in Indianapolis, and the Aggiesā own Pro Day in March.
The 2020 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 23-25 in Las Vegas.
