LOGAN — Utah State powered past conference foe Wyoming to win 26-21 Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Cowboys intercepted a pass from Utah State quarterback Jordan Love on Wyoming's 10-yard line and returned it for a touchdown. That gave the Cowboys an early lead, but it was the last time Wyoming would lead.
Love completed two Aggie drives with touchdowns from 80 yards and 31 yards, respectively. Placekicker Dominik Eberle then made two field goals, one from 47 yards out and another from 44 yard, within the last 2:04 of the first half.
Love’s two first-half touchdown passes brought him to a total of 53 passing touchdowns for his career, which is third most in Utah State history. The players on the other end of those passes were Siaosi Mariner and Gerold Bright, arguably two of Love’s favorite targets this season.
The Aggies didn't score again until 4:44 left in the third quarter, on a 26-yard field goal from Eberle. On the next Aggie possession, Henry Colombi came in at quarterback after Love took a hit on the previous play.
Eberle, again, scored the first points of the fourth quarter with another field goal from 23 yards out to give the Aggies a 26-14 with just under 11 minutes to go in the game. But Wyoming answered back on a 5-yard rushing touchdown from Vander Waal on the next drive.
Vander Waal’s two touchdowns ended up being Wyoming’s only scoring plays of the game after Utah State’s junior linebacker, Eric Munoz, intercepted a Wyoming pass with less than a minute to go.
Munoz finished with two interceptions and 13 tackles, which was the most of any Utah State defender. Munoz has been playing in the last three games in place of David Woodward.
Utah State is now 6-1 in conference play and will face Boise State in Logan next week before finishing Mountain West play in New Mexico the following week.
