SALT LAKE CITY — A total of 64 high schools in the state of Utah competed for the title of being named the best in the state.
It’s an arbitrary title, but one that still got people working hard to get their high school to reach the end. And after three weeks of you voting for your favorites, the winner is Viewmont High School in Bountiful. Congrats!
After several close matchups in the last few rounds of the bracket challenge, No. 4 Viewmont dominated No. 14 Payson and secured 75 percent of the vote. The final matchup had over 36,000 votes, with 26,937 votes in favor of the Vikings.
Viewmont’s path to victory did not come without challenge, though. The Vikings narrowly defeated Timpview by 412 votes in the Sweet 16 round and then another narrow victory over Logan in the Elite 8 round by 363 votes.
Congrats to those who supported Viewmont along the way and to the school for being named the best high school in the state of Utah for 2018. Check back next year as we try to determine the best high school from the three smaller classifications in the state — 3A, 2A and 1A.
