SALT LAKE CITY — Sixth-ranked Utah gymnastics secured a spot at the Baton Rouge regional to begin its quest for a national championship.

“We thought this would possibly be where we would be headed,” Utah co-head coach Megan Marsden said.

The Red Rocks learned their seeding and competition during the NCAA.com selection show Monday afternoon.

Joining Utah at the first session of the regional, in order of seed, are No. 11 Minnesota, BYU and Arkansas.

Competing in the second session of the regional are No. 3 LSU, No. 14 Auburn, Arizona State and the winner of the George Washington-Lindenwood play-in meet, which takes place Thursday, April 4.

“This is the most consistent team I think I have ever coached. If we go do our job, it shouldn’t be as daunting as other regionals to move on through,” Marsden said.

Utah, which has never missed an NCAA championship, is one of 36 teams in the postseason and will compete in nationals for the 44th-consecutive year if it finishes as one of the top two teams in its region.

In the new postseason format, there are a total of four regionals — Ann Arbor, Michigan, Athens, Georgia, Corvallis, Oregon, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Utah will open regional play on Friday, April 5, in one of two four-team regional semifinals. The top two teams from each regional semifinal will advance to the four-team Super Regional on Saturday, April 6. The first and second place teams from each Super Regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championship on April 19-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Utah will compete on Friday, April 5, at 1 p.m. MDT. The meet will broadcast on SEC+.
