LOGAN â Finally, a resolution.
After signing on the dotted line, then retracting that dotted line 48 hours later, new Utah State football coach Gary Andersen has a cornerbacks coach.
The returning Aggie boss announced the hiring of Mark Orphey to his staff Tuesday, bringing to close one of the more bizarre hiring processes of the 2019 college football coaching carousel.
Orphey has eight years of collegiate coaching experience, including the past two seasons at Big Sky contender Montana State. Prior to his time in Bozeman, Orphey spent four seasons at South Carolina, his first job away from his alma mater, Texas Southern. A three-year starter at cornerback, Orphey earned all-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors as a junior and senior in 2009 and 2010.
Orphey replaces Jalil Brown, the former NFL defensive back who joined Andersenâs staff from Northern Arizona â then flipped just two days later and took the same position at Boise State.
Heâll join new defensive coordinator Justin Ena's staff in Logan, which also includes outside linebackers coach Bojay Filimoeatu, safeties coach Mike Caputo and defensive graduate assistants Conor Dubin and Al Lapuaho.
