PROVO ā€” On seven-straight occasions, the BYU men's basketball team has gone into San Francisco and escaped War Memorial Gym with a win over USF.

But these aren't your grandparents' Dons.

So it was that in the midst of one of its best seasons in recent memory, the Dons exorcized a few demons Saturday night.

Frankie Ferrari poured in 21 points to go along with seven assists, and San Francisco beat BYU at home for the first time as members of the same conference, 82-63, at War Memorial Gym at Sobrato Center in San Francisco.

Jamaree Bouyea added 15 points and four rebounds for the Dons (16-3, 4-1 WCC), and Matt McCarthy supplied 14 points and seven boards.

Yoeli Childs led BYU (12-9, 4-2 WCC) with 25 points, and Zac Seljaas added five points and seven rebounds for the Cougars. TJ Haws scored 12 points for BYU, and McKay Cannon added nine.

For long stretches of the first half, Childs was a non-factor, as USF took turns defending the post against the returning all-West Coast Conference first-team selection.

From top-to-bottom, BYU just didn't measure up to third-year coach Kyle Smith's team.

"They were just better. They were better than we were," BYU coach Dave Rose told KSL Newsradio. "It was a tough night for our guys. The feel of this gym tonight compared to the last seven times weā€™ve been here, itā€™s completely different. Kyle has done a terrific job."

BYU tied the game at 15-all early in the first half and led 15-13 with 12:30 remaining. Then Ferrari revved the Donsā€™ offense, out-pacing the Cougars 16-0 over the next six minutes.

"That really killed us," Cannon said. "We battled back, but any time you are on the road and give up a 16-0 run, itā€™s going to be very tough to win.

"We got in some trouble there."

The Dons cruised to a 43-29 lead at halftime, and the advantaged ballooned as high as 20 points with 4:13 to go as they took out a decadeā€™s worth of disappointment against the Cougars.

USF had never beat BYU at home since the Cougars joined the West Coast Conference, going just 1-14 overall since 2011.

Yes, BYU was 7-0 at War Memorial Gym before Saturday night. Make it 7-1, after the Dons shot 64 percent from the field, including 9-of-19 from 3-point range.

"That was tough," Cannon said. "A lot of credit to San Francisco; we just couldnā€™t get it done. I felt like we were in a buzzsaw for a bit there.

"They're a good team."
