SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a teen Utah boy is under arrest following the death of his stepbrother in what police initially described as an accidental shooting.
Detective Kevin Mallory with Salt Lake County's Unified Police says the 15-year-old was arrested Wednesday. He refused to say what charges he was arrested on, citing the boy's age and the ongoing investigation. The teen was believed to still be in custody on Thursday.
Police previously said he and his 16-year-old stepbrother were playing with a shotgun in Kearns early Monday morning when 16-year-old teenager accidently shot himself. Authorities said then the boys thought the gun was unloaded.
Mallory says authorities arrested the 15-year-old as they continued to investigate the incident, but he said investigators had not yet changed the finding that the shooting was accident.
