SALT LAKE CITY — Employees at a Salt Lake City car dealership recently discovered more than they were expecting while detailing a car recently purchased at an out-of-state auction, according to police.
Inside, they found a bullet and suspected blood, according to a Salt Lake police search warrant affidavit.
On Jan. 25, a black 2016 Audi A6 that had been purchased at an auction in California a few days earlier was being cleaned in Salt Lake City, the affidavit states.
“While detailing the vehicle, staff observed several spots that appeared to be blood inside the vehicle as well as a bullet slug that also appeared to have blood stains on it. The bullet was originally located in the rear driver side door cup holder. When staff brought this to management’s attention, it was not taken serious and they were advised to continue the clean up of the vehicle,” according to the affidavit.
However, staff members still decided to call law enforcement. Police found evidence of blood and took possession of the car so it could be processed in a sterile environment, the affidavit states.
A bullet was recovered from the vehicle as well as rags used to clean the car and floor mats, a return to the affidavit states. After police were finished collecting evidence, the car was turned back over to the person in Utah who had purchased the Audi.
Salt Lake police said the evidence they collected was turned over to authorities in California. The status of the investigation there was not known as of Monday.
