SALT LAKE CITY — Do you need a used car? How about a new laptop, or some AirPods?
Or a box of assorted police evidence?
Whatever your needs, the fourth quarterly TNT fleet auction of 2019 is likely to have something for you. Coming this Saturday, Dec. 14, in Salt Lake City, the auction gives Utahns the opportunity to bid on hundreds of vehicles and miscellaneous items from municipal governments across the Wasatch Front.
TNT Auction spokesman Mike Wood said the auction will include just over 400 vehicles and about 350 miscellaneous lots — which actually makes the December municipal auction one of the year’s smallest, he said.
Not only will the auction include common vehicles like the Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry and Chevy Impala; it can also land bidders a new garbage truck, street vacuum sweeper, bus or ambulance.
According to a news release from a participating agency, Salt Lake City’s Fleet Division, the quarterly auctions “allow Salt Lake City and other municipal governments to repurpose vehicles and recapture revenue by selling older fleet vehicles that can no longer be maintained at a reasonable price.”
“This revenue can then be used towards vehicle replacement funds for newer or more fuel-efficient models,” it says.
Wood said the auction includes items from Salt Lake County, Davis County, Weber County, Provo, Orem, Lehi, West Jordan, West Valley City, South Salt Lake, North Salt Lake, Syracuse, Bountiful, Harrisville and more.
On Friday, TNT Auction will hold a preview for prospective buyers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its 2353 N. Redwood Rd. location, where the live auction will be held the next day beginning at 9 a.m. “We’re going to be selling all day long,” Wood said.
There is no cost to register, but participants must present a valid ID.
Though the 400-plus vehicles will also be auctioned online, the miscellaneous items are available for bidding only on location. The vehicle and miscellaneous auctions will occur at the same time, starting at 9 a.m.
The miscellaneous auction will include a wide variety of items, from boats to ladders to elliptical machines and iPads — and, yes, there are four items called simply “box w/ police evidence.”

Wood said the volume of the quarterly auctions lends itself to some great deals. In September, a 1998 Kawasaki four-wheeler sold for $125; a 1987 Jayco motorhome went for $400; and a 1991 14-passenger school bus sold for $500.
“There’s a lot of stuff here,” Wood said, “so there’s a lot of deals to be had. I think the best part about it is, you’re out here in the open with the rest of the public bidding on everything. We have absolutely just everything you can think of — passenger vehicles, trucks, vans. There’s a lot of the yard-type equipment — mowers, aerators, construction equipment, rollers, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, down to the small stuff that we have here.
“I mean, you name it, we’ve got it here, pretty much.”
