SALT LAKE CITY — Amazon announced this week that it is hiring for 700 full-time positions at its Salt Lake City fulfillment center.

In a news release, the company said new hires will fill a variety of customer fulfillment roles, from “receiving inventory to picking and shipping customer orders.”

“Associates will also work alongside innovative technologies,” the release says, “including Amazon robotics that will be used on a daily basis to fulfill customer orders.”

Amazon opened its Salt Lake fulfillment center in 2018 and hosted local government officials and news media earlier this year to showcase its sprawling facility of 1,500 employees and thousands of robots.

Amazon spokesman Zeshan Kazmi said the latest round of hiring will push the number of employees past 2,000. He said that customer demand was the primary factor in the decision to hire more employees.

“We’re very close to a very large customer base there in Utah,” Kazmi said. “Being able to have fulfillment centers in that location now will allow us to get packages to customers even faster and reach that customer demand that’s coming from the area.”

In August, Amazon announced plans to open a Utah fulfillment center in West Jordan.

Amazon offers a companywide $15 minimum wage and, according to the release, other benefits including health, vision, dental, a 401(k), paid parental leave, and tuition assistance through its CareerChoice program.

Candidates must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
