SALT LAKE CITY — The 2020 Sundance Film Festival doesn’t start until January, but Tuesday will be the first opportunity for people to buy tickets — if you live in Utah.

The organization will sell ticket packages and festival passes for locals from noon to 8 p.m; those items will go on sale for the general public on Thursday.

The annual festival, focused on independent feature films and documentaries, runs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2 in Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance Mountain Resort.

This will be the first Sundance fest since festival founder Robert Redford announced he would be limiting his involvement with the yearly event.

Pass and package prices include the $500 locals SLC pass, which gets you access to Sundance film screenings in Salt Lake City, priority entrance to other screenings and a festival credential, according to the festival’s website.

Also available is a $300 10-ticket package, which includes tickets that are good for any festival screening, as well as two festival credentials.

Various other packages will open up for sale to the general public on Thursday. Those range from the most prestigious, all-access Express Pass, which costs $3,500-4,000, to a $100 Shorts Episodic Package, which gets you into Indie Episodic and Shorts Program events at the festival.

The festival hasn’t yet announced the films that will be screening or a schedule for the event. Ticket sales for individual screenings will open up for Utahns on Jan. 16, and to the general public from Jan. 21 to Feb. 2.

KSL.com will have all the latest Sundance Film Festival coverage between now and January.
