SALT LAKE CITY — A man who apparently didn’t like being honked at after nearly hitting two pedestrians stopped to pull a gun on the driver, according to police.

Rocky Dean Conner, 69, of Magna, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; obstructing justice, a second-degree felony; and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

On Aug. 25, a woman was in her car near 3100 South and 8800 West when she noticed a Jeep “driving aggressive and nearly hit two pedestrians crossing the street,” according to a Salt Lake County Jail booking affidavit.

Charging documents add that the driver “swerved” toward the two girls crossing the street.

The woman honked her horn and yelled at the driver to pay attention, court documents state. That prompted the driver, Conner, to stop, back up his Jeep and confront the woman and her husband, according to the charges.

Conner got out his Jeep holding a gun, and then attempted to take the cell phone of the woman as she was calling police, the charges allege.

“Victim gripped her phone and would not allow (Conner) to take it from her. (Conner) told the victim, ‘I’ll show you to pay attention’ and pointed the gun at victim,” the affidavit states.

Despite having a gun pointed at her, the woman refused to let go of her phone, the charges state.

Conner then walked back to his Jeep, covered his license plate with napkins, and drove off, according to the charges. The woman was able to take pictures of both Conner and his license plate before it was covered.

Police were able to track down Conner and seized a gun from his vehicle that had six rounds in the magazine, charging documents state.

When interviewed by police, Conner admitted to “losing control and took it too far,” the jail affidavit states.
