HINCKLEY, Millard County — A man and two horses are dead after a pickup truck crashed into another truck hauling a horse trailer in Millard County Friday morning, officials said.
Randy Haddenham, 62, of Milford, was driving a Dodge pickup truck north on state Route 257 when he failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into another Dodge pickup truck hauling a horse trailer westbound on state Route 6 near Hinckley, according to an emailed statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver of the horse trailer realized Haddenham was not going to stop and attempted to stop himself. Because of his heavy load, however, he was unable to stop and tried to speed up before Haddenham hit him, troopers said.
Haddenham's truck crashed between the other truck and the trailer and completely severed the trailer in half, knocking the horses into the road, killing two and seriously injuring at least one other, according to UHP.
Haddenham was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was thrown onto the dash. He died at the scene, troopers said.
State Route 6 was closed for several hours during the investigation and clean up.
