HURRICANE — A 13-year-old boy died Wednesday after a UTV accident in Sand Mountain’s off-highway vehicle area, officials said. Sand Mountain is adjacent to Sand Hollow State Park.

Park rangers responded to the crash about 2:45 p.m. in the sand dunes, according to the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation news release.

The boy and his family are from Colorado, according to the release. Officials said they don’t believe anyone else was injured in the accident, but the boy, who was wearing a seat belt, died on scene.

Details about how the crash occurred were not released and officials said the accident is under investigation.

The division extended its “condolences to the friends and family impacted by this incident,” the release said.
