SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities in Oregon have arrested a Utah man who they say has been on the run since being involved in an April altercation in Kaysville in which he allegedly shot at two people.

Officials with the United States Marshals Service arrested Jay Dewayne Burrus, 24, in Portland on Monday, according to a news release from the agency. Arrangements are currently being made to bring him back to Utah, the release states.

Authorities located a vehicle with Utah plates in the city and saw Burrus get into the car shortly after, the release states. The car then arrived at a branch of the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles where Burrus was taken into custody without further incident, according to the release.

Burrus was charged April 8 in Second District Court in Davis County with ten felonies, including two counts of attempted murder, seven counts of discharge of a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, according to charging documents.

He also was charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, charges state.

The charges stem from an April 4 altercation between Burrus and two other men that took place near 680 N. Main Street in Kaysville, according to the release.

Investigators interviewed several people who allegedly were involved in the fight and were told that one of the men became angry because his girlfriend had posted pictures with Burrus, according to charging documents. Earlier in the day, the girlfriend told investigators she asked the boyfriend to come to her residence and pick up some belongings, charges state.

Burrus was outside the residence at the time, and the boyfriend said he wanted to fight Burrus, the girlfriend told investigators. They made arrangements to meet at a unit in a trailer park, charges state.

The boyfriend later drove to the trailer with another person, charges state. He told police that when they arrived, they exchanged words with Burrus, and said they wanted to fight, according to the charges. There were two other people nearby, one in the driveway with Burrus and another in a vehicle, charges state.

As the boyfriend turned to park the car nearby, he told police heard shots being fired and heard rounds hitting the car from behind, according to the charges. He then drove away, the charges state.

Investigators later found at least four different bullet holes in the car, according to the charges. One round hit the drivers-side mirror, and another hit the back window and went through the headrest of the back seat, charges state.
