SANDY — Police believe two possible armed robberies in Salt Lake County Friday morning are connected.

It started at Floribertos, 8732 S. State in Sandy about 8:40 a.m., Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said. A man entered the restaurant, approached a cashier and demanded money. The cashier complied and the man fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

“As he was running away, you could see he (possibly) had some type of long gun with him so he did have a gun,” Nielsen said.

At 9:35 a.m., Unified police received a report of an armed robbery at the El Potrero Market, located 7679 S. Main in Midvale.

“He had a handgun and demanded money from a cashier and then he fled on foot,” Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said. She added police received a report from a resident who said a man with a similar description of the man suspected in the robbery was in their backyard.

“He then actually fled from there and got into a black older model Honda Civic,” Gray said.

The man was described as white, about 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, dark-colored hair and blue eyes, according to descriptions from both Sandy and Unified police. He has an athletic build. He was wearing a black Under Armour hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes. He also wore a Fox hat and a green camouflage bandana with a Nike logo on it.

Anyone who may have information about the robberies are encouraged to call Sandy police at 801-568-7200 or their anonymous tip line, 801-568-4636, or Unified police at 801-743-7000.
