SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man and woman with gold-tipped dreadlocks after the pair allegedly struck a man with a hatchet and attempted to steal his computer Sunday night, officials said.
The victim was visiting a friend in a Salt Lake apartment near 160 S. 300 East about 10:30 p.m. when the man’s friend went to the store and left the victim in the apartment with the man and woman, Salt Lake police detective Jess Perea said.
Soon after the man’s friend left, one of the individuals pulled out a hatchet and hit the man in the back of the head and shoulder, then tried to steal his computer, according to police. When they were unsuccessful, the pair fled the scene.
The victim reported the incident to police, then went to the hospital. He suffered only minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, Perea said.
Both the man and woman were described as adults in their 20s, and both were sporting dreadlocks with gold tips, the victim told police.

Ax-wielding man arrested in Fillmore
Two days prior, and 145 miles to the south in Fillmore, another man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, burglary and several other matters after officials say he wielded an ax, then led deputies and troopers on a high-speed chase.
On Friday night, a man called Millard County Sheriff's deputies and said there was a man outside his home, near 2655 S. Scenic Highway, who was carrying a 3-foot ax, asking him to "open his door and come outside," according to jail documents. The man with the ax appeared to be on drugs, the homeowner told dispatchers.
When deputies arrived, they attempted a traffic stop on the man’s car, but he sped off and ran through a stop sign going between 85 and 98 mph, according to jail records. Deputies continued to chase the vehicle northbound on state Route 100, as it swerved left and right, and alternated between speeding up to nearly 100 mph and slowing down, records state.
Deputies spiked the tires of the vehicle at the junction of state Routes 100 and U.S. Highway 50, and the man eventually crashed the car into a fence, jail records show. The man then got out of the car with the ax and fled on foot into the tall sagebrush in the area.
Sheriff's deputies, highway patrol troopers, staff from Adult Parole and Probation and a Department of Public Safety helicopter searched for and finally found 32-year-old Nathan Hare on a dirt road about 3 or 4 miles south of the crashed car, according to jail records. Inside the vehicle, police found five knives, two hatchets and one can of pepper spray.
Hare was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, burglary, reckless driving, threat or use of a dangerous weapon in a fight, criminal trespassing, unsafe lane travel, two counts of failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and nine counts of transaction of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and a stop sign violation, jail records state.
Hare was on parole at the time of his arrest. He was transported back to prison after he was arrested, according to the Millard County Sheriff’s Office.
