SARATOGA SPRINGS — A bicyclist was flown to a hospital with a concussion after he lost control while riding downhill in Saratoga Springs, officials said Monday.

The incident took place near the intersection of Hillside Drive and Parkside Drive about 2:30 p.m., officials said. The male cyclist was riding down a hill and lost control for an unknown reason, Saratoga Springs City spokesman David Johnson said.

The rider fell off the bike before the bike slid and hit the driver's side of a car, Johnson said. He was flown to a nearby hospital with a concussion and a shoulder injury, Johnson said. He was not sure exactly what condition the cyclist was in.

The cyclist was wearing a helmet and was riding a road bike when the incident occurred, Saratoga Springs Police Cpl. Carl Hamer said. The hill the biker was on is not very steep but still has a downhill grade, Hamer said.

The cyclist was wearing a helmet when he lost control and is expected to survive, Johnson said.
