1. Winter storm results in avalanche, closures and crashes statewide

A massive winter storm moved through Utah Monday, causing an avalanche, traffic accidents, road closures and other cancellations across the state.

2. Family of South Jordan homicide victim thanks community for support

The family of a South Jordan man killed this past week issued a statement Saturday night thanking the community for sending messages of support. David Stokoe was found dead Friday after police believe an altercation took place at one of his properties on Thursday.

3. Denver man visiting Utah threatened 'killing as many girls as I see' on weekend of Women's March, police say

A Denver man visiting Utah was arrested early Saturday after police say he threatened on social media to be "the next mass shooter" and said he was planning on "killing as many girls as I see."

4. Utah National Guardsman dies swimming laps at Utah public pool

A member of the Utah National Guard died Saturday while swimming laps at a public pool. Corey Holmgren, 35, was swimming laps while his wife recorded him with her phone about 2:30 p.m. at the West Valley Family Fitness Center, 5415 W. 3100 South, when he went under the water and did not surface, West Valley City Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Fox said.

5. Body recovered in search for missing skier after avalanche in Emery County

Search crews recovered the body of a missing skier Saturday who was buried by an avalanche on Friday, officials report. The body of Michael Besnedorfer, 26, of Nephi, was located Saturday about noon after a search dog named Lucy "indicated on an area," according to a Facebook post from the Emery County Sheriff's Office.

After a long offseason — one that proved to be even longer than expected after the club’s loss in the Western Conference semifinals to Sporting Kansas City — RSL was back on the training pitch Monday, blizzard and all.

2. Mitchell-led rally comes up short in Jazz loss

Donovan Mitchell ran out of time.

Mitchell scored 14 straight points for the Jazz in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to help cut a 12-point Portland lead to just four in the final minute. But the problem was Portland had Damian Lillard on the other end.

3. Utah women's hoops ranked for first time in more than decade

The 21st-ranked Utes entered The AP women's basketball poll Monday for the first time since the final poll of the 2008 season.

4. San Francisco snaps seven-game home losing streak to BYU, 82-63, on The Hilltop

Frankie Ferrari poured in 21 points to go along with seven assists, and San Francisco beat BYU at home for the first time as members of the same conference, 82-63, at War Memorial Gym at Sobrato Center in San Francisco.

5. Utes claim 78-69 win over visiting Colorado

tah guard Sedrick Barefield hit back-to-back 3-pointers to open up the game against Colorado Sunday. It would be the beginning of a hot-shooting night for the Utes who claimed a 78-69 win over the Buffaloes.
