SALT LAKE CITY — A man who was charged with human trafficking and numerous other felonies on Tuesday was arrested by a Utah Attorney General task force Wednesday.
James Savage Brown, 52, was arrested after authorities with the SECURE Strike Force observed him leaving an apartment he was known to visit frequently, according to a jail report.
The report stated that authorities found a “large hunting-type knife” on his hip and a vial with four individual packages of a substance determined to be methamphetamine. Officers also found a small digital scale on the bike he was riding and another plastic vial with marijuana, the report added.
He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, distribution of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to the items found during his arrest.
Brown was charged in 3rd District Court on Tuesday with two counts of aggravated human trafficking, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and forcible sodomy, all first-degree felonies. He was also charged with two counts of aggravated exploitation of a prostitute, a second-degree felony.
Prosecutors alleged Brown forced at least two women into prostitution.
Prosecutors said Brown has a “lengthy” criminal history in both Utah and California. They added that anyone with human trafficking tips should report them to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888.
