WEST VALLEY CITY — One person was transported to a hospital after the car they were driving collided with a Utah Transit Authority bus before crashing into a home Monday morning, police said.

Police responded to a report of a crash into a home located near 4100 West and 3100 South about 9:30 a.m., according to West Valley City Police Lt. Amy Maurer.

A mother driving her teenage daughter in a passenger car was traveling north on 4100 West and attempted to turn onto 3100 South at an intersection. The car pulled out in front of the UTA bus and the two vehicles collided, Maurer said. The collision sent the passenger vehicle into a nearby home.

“The passenger vehicle decided to make a right-hand turn east,” she said. “A couple cars had passed but then they turned in front of a UTA bus. The accident made the car ricochet and it hit a house.”

The driver of the passenger car was transported to a hospital with possible broken bones and injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Maurer. Her condition wasn’t immediately released.

Maurer said there were six people on the bus and at least four people inside the home at the time of the crash. One person on the bus suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, she said.

Police didn’t know the cost of damage to the home, but a building inspector was called to check out the home. The inspector said the home was safe after putting in some supports, but the crash left a “gaping hole” in it.

“It’s a lot,” she said. “The car was actually in the living room.”

It wasn’t immediately clear if any citations would be issued, she continued. The crash remains under investigation.
