BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise State University has a woman president for the first time in the institution's history.
The Idaho State Board of Education announced Tuesday at a special meeting that Marlene Tromp has been named the university's seventh president.
The vote by the board was unanimous.
Tromp says she feels excited by the fact that the board was willing to bring in a "young woman president who had big ideas for the university to take its next step."
The 52-year-old Tromp was formerly the provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Tromp will make $425,000 a year and will begin work on July 1 as the successor to longtime leader Bob Kustra.
Kustra announced his retirement in November 2017 after being at the helm since 2003.
