BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise officials are looking to expand the city's smoking ban to include e-cigarettes.
The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to advance a measure that would amend the city's Smokefree Air Act to prohibit vaping in many public places.
The ordinance would ban e-cigarette use in the same spaces where smoking is prohibited, including public properties, bars, public transportation areas, parks and some commercial outdoor patios.
Council Member Holli Woodings proposed the ordinance, saying the effects of e-cigarettes are now better understood.
The city had exempted e-cigarettes when the smoking ban was passed in 2011, citing a lack of scientific studies on their use.
