BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Officials at Yellowstone National Park say the park had the third busiest October on record, sending the park over the 4 million-visitation mark for the year.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports park officials say Yellowstone hosted 218,076 visits last month, about a 3 percent increase over last October's visitation numbers. The park averaged nearly 190,000 visits in October from 2012 to 2017.

For the year, the park has counted 4,078,770 visits, which is down slightly from the same period last year. The park recorded 4,084,763 visits through October in 2017.

With the increase in October, the park's year-to-date visitation in 2018 is 3 percent lower than it was in 2016, with 4,212,782 visits through October. However, the report through October pegs park visitation 29 percent higher than it was in 2013.
