BOISE, Idaho (AP) — State officials have voted to appoint State Forester David Groeschl as acting director of the Idaho Department of Lands.
Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter and the four other statewide elected officials on the Idaho Land Board earlier this week unanimously tapped Groeschl to run the state agency that manages about 2.4 million acres of state endowment land that generates money mainly for public schools.
Groeschl has been the state forester since 2011 and the agency's deputy director since 2016.
The board also directed the state agency to begin preparing the necessary documents to solicit applications to hire a permanent director.
The previous director, Tom Schultz, left the agency to become vice president of Government Affairs and Community Outreach for Idaho Forest Group.
