ST. GEORGE — A middle school teacher was arrested Thursday in connection with inappropriately touching a student, police said.

Shaun M. Timothy, 46, of Santa Clara, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Police said Timothy was a teacher at Tonaquint Intermediate School in St. George and the incident involved a student.

St. George police first received a report of misconduct Saturday. A 13-year-old girl told investigators that Timothy had touched her buttocks.

“(She) disclosed that she could feel something touching her buttocks while sitting on her desk. (She) disclosed that she turned and looked at Mr. Timothy and then realized that it was him, who was touching her on the buttocks,” police wrote in an affidavit filed in 5th District Court Thursday.

The student said she moved away from Timothy and told investigators she “felt sick and was physically and emotionally upset” about what happened, the affidavit stated. It added other students corroborated the incident.

After contact with police on the phone, Timothy agreed to turn himself in to authorities Thursday morning, the report continued.
