HURRICANE — A man was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly stealing a truck and leading police on a high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood, according to jail documents.
Christopher L. Carrington, 35, was booked into the Washington County Jail for investigation of theft, reckless driving, evading police and drug possession, among other offenses, jail records show.
Hurricane police received reports Sunday night of a stolen truck that had two guns inside, according to an arrest report.
An officer later found the truck waiting at a red light near 3400 W. State Street, according to the report. The driver, later identified as Carrington, turned into a Walmart, driving around the back side of the store before turning onto 3400 West at a high speed, the report states.
The truck sped through residential neighborhoods at speeds over 90 miles per hour, eventually stopping at a trailer park at 677 W. 100 North, according to the report. Carrington allegedly got out of the car and ran away, and officers could not see where he went, the report states.
A reverse 911 call went out to residents in the area, and people were told to stay inside and lock doors while police searched the neighborhood, according to Hurricane police officer Ken Thompson.
Carrington’s grandparents live in a house near where the truck stopped, but when police contacted the grandparents and Carrington’s uncle, they were “extremely uncooperative,” according to the report. They were detained outside the house while police worked to obtain a search warrant for the residence, the report said.
Police later served the warrant and asked the homeowner to call her four dogs outside the house, according to the report.
Carrington then appeared in the house from around a corner, the report states. Officers “proned him out at gun point,” and he was taken into custody, according to the report.
Police searched the stolen truck and found methamphetamine in a jacket that was left inside, the report states. Police also found marijuana in the truck, as well as several tools commonly used for burglaries, according to the report.
Carrington was still in Washington County Jail as of 12:30 p.m. Monday, jail records show.
