ST. GEORGE — A man accused of shooting at another car in St. George was arrested early Sunday.
Gustavo Armando Estevez, 44, of St. George, was arrested just before 2 a.m. for investigation of four counts of aggravated assault, assault on a police officer, firing a gun within city limits, carrying a gun while intoxicated and disarming a police officer.
Saturday night, a vehicle with four people inside was shot at by Estevez near 600 South Main, according to a Washington County Jail report. St. George police who responded to the scene found a bullet hole in the trunk of the car, the report states.
"The bullet was stopped from entering the cab of the vehicle by a metal pillar," according to the report.
A few blocks away from where the shooting allegedly happened, investigators found a car that matched the one given by the victims, according to the report. The car was registered to Estevez and parked at his home near 100 West and 500 South, the report states. Officers called him out of his house, the report states.
When the officers told Estevez that he was under arrest, he resisted by refusing to put his hands in a position to be cuffed, according to the report.
"Gustavo was being verbally combative toward the arresting officer during the search. At some point during the search, Gustavo pushed his body back toward the arresting officers and used the back of his head to hit the officer in the forehead," the report states.
Estevez's blood acohol level was measured at .119, according to the report.
While searching the property, detectives found a gun in Estevez's jacket, which was found in a trash can next to where his car was parked, the report states.
"The gun had multiple rounds in the magazine, as well as one in the chamber," according to the report.
A shell casing found near the shooting scene matched the ammunition in Estevez's gun, the report states.
While being interviewed by police at the St. George Police Department, Estevez again resisted and attempted to grab a police officer's gun, according to the report.
A possible motive for the shooting was not given in police documents.
