OHIO — Have you ever had that moment where something entirely rational happens to you, but your brain misinterprets it so you feel like you’ve just survived a horror movie?

We’ve all been there. It’s the double-take we do in the dark when disturbing things are glimpsed in our periphery, misheard phrases that sound wildly out of character until they are clarified, itching that feels like a spider crawling up one leg and forces us into a screaming wiggle-dance; and if you’re like me, it’s every noise outside the tent when you’re camping. The mundane can easily feel like the end of the world.

Luckily, humans are not alone in their embarrassing misinterpretations. This buck just survived the shock of his life in this video, and it’s the funniest thing you’ll see today.

The humor of this is in its display of contrast. This scrawny little guy, too small to hunt, is so careful as he nudges up to his friend-to be, watching him, blissfully unaware of how hunters use decoys during mating season. He even decides to follow proper buck etiquette and duel the new guy. This is where everything (including the buck) goes south.

Of course the decoy’s head falls off, of course it does. Its physical comedy is perfect.

The poor buck takes one look at the hunting decoy’s head on the ground and is convinced he’s a murderer. Watch him practically jump out of his skin and dash away at the speed of sound. Whoosh! He’s gone!

He doesn’t know what’s happened. He can’t possibly understand. But his relatable overreaction is everything.

I’ve watched this 10 times, and my sides hurt from laughing. Sometimes, all of us overreact, and it is, in fact, quite en-deer-ing.
