SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officers are seeking information about two unrelated poachings that have occurred in the last two weeks.
A conservation officer received information about the first poaching on Oct. 29. When he responded, he discovered a buck deer near 2400 N. 400 West in Cedar City, according to wildlife officials. The investigating officer found the 26-inch 4x4 deer in a field and determined it had been shot with a rifle about a month earlier and left to waste.
Several witnesses reported they had seen the deer in the area, but not within the past month. Officials don’t currently have any leads on the shooter.
The second illegally-killed deer was discovered on Nov. 1 in an irrigation station near the Mosida Farms by the western shoreline of Utah Lake, wildlife officials said. A responding conservation officer discovered the buck deer had been shot with a rifle, likely the week before, and its head had been removed. The body was dumped at the irrigation station.
Anyone with information about either poaching can call the Utah Turn-in-a-Poacher (UTiP) Hotline at 800-662-3337. Officials also said rewards are available and requests for confidentiality are respected.
