ZION NATIONAL PARK — Angels Landing is set to reopen Saturday following a 2-month closure caused by severe storm damage, officials report.
The West Rim Trail, which includes the route to Angels Landing, will reopen at 8 a.m., according to a news release from the National Park Service.
Officials had closed the popular trail in mid-July after a severe thunderstorm caused flooding, mudslides and rockfalls.
Since then, crews stabilized the trail after a portion was washed out by the storm and built a custom bridge where the trail and a retaining wall had been damaged, the park service said.
Crews also built four new check dams to protect the trail from severe weather in the future.
“We appreciate the public’s patience as we’ve worked to recover from substantial storm damage, and I applaud the efforts of the park’s trail crew who worked tirelessly to re-build the trail structures through Refrigerator Canyon,” said Zion National Park superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh.
The following trails remain closed:
- Kayenta Trail
- Upper Emerald Pools Trail
- The terminus of Lower Emerald Polls Trail
- Hidden Canyon
