MILLCREEK — The space heater in Joan Record’s sitting room used to be in her basement. She moved it upstairs when the one she had here — that wasn’t cheap — quit working.
Record’s receipt showed she paid $482.82 for the now-broken space heater. The sales date was January 2019, showing it was barely a year old when it died.
The receipt also showed that the heater came with a three-year service plan.
Record said she returned to the store where it was purchased hoping to get it repaired under that service plan, but the shop turned her away. She said they told her the service plan only covers little things like cleanings, and the heater was toast.
“I think we deserve our money back,” she said.
Out almost $500 for a heater that lasted a mere year, Record decided to Give It To Gephardt.
“I didn’t know who else to call,” she said.
KSL TV went to the shop where the heater was purchased, Vacuums 360 in South Salt Lake City, to ask about all of this. Managing owner Greg Lawson said he wasn’t aware of Record’s situation until KSL TV brought it to his attention.
“We try to, you know, make all of our customers happy,” he said.
He said Record’s heater came with a one-year warranty and that he “believes” it should have lasted longer than it did.
Vacuums 360 said they inspected her old machine and don’t know why it died. Lawson said it appeared as though Record took good care of it.
Considering that Record’s heater bit the dust within days of the warranty expiring, Vacuums 360 has now decided to replace it with a new one.
“I always think, like, ‘Hey, if I flipped this around, how would I want to be treated?’” Lawson said. “Just the fact that it was literally a month after that, I’d probably want a new heater.”
Record said her new heater is working great.
