SOUTH JORDAN — Utah is home to an enthusiastic Downton Abbey fan base, according to Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres.

So much so that a dress worn by the Dowager Countess of Grantham herself (played by Maggie Smith) will be on display at the South Jordan Megaplex, 3761 W. Parkway Plaza Dr.

The Downton Abbey movie, based on the popular PBS TV show, continues the story of the Crawley family, wealthy owners of an English countryside estate in the early 1900s.

Over its six seasons, the series won three Golden Globe Awards, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, 69 Emmy nominations in total, making Downton Abbey the most nominated non-United States TV show in the history of the Emmys — it even earned a Special BAFTA award and a Guinness World Record for the highest critically rated TV show.

In addition to the costume display, on Sept. 20 the South Jordan location will hold Downton Abbey related events starting at 5:30 p.m., including afternoon tea, a costume contest and Downton Abbey themed games.

On Sept. 19, the Megaplex at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, 2935 N. Thanksgiving Way, will hold the same events.

“Since Utah has such an enthusiastic Downton Abbey fan base, Megaplex Theatres was chosen by the studio to showcase the costume,” Blake Andersen, president of Megaplex Theatres, said in a news release. “Megaplex is also hosting several special events to celebrate the opening of the film where guests, many dressed in period costumes, will enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea and a variety of themed activities.”

The studio didn’t give an exact timeline of when the costume will be returned, so Megaplex officials are advising people to go see the “limited engagement” display sooner rather than later.

The movie premieres Friday, Sept. 20.
